Job Description

This Lab Technician role involves working with the quality team to perform laboratory analysis and QA/QC checks required for refinery analysis. The position is part of a team dedicated to ensuring the quality of products made for food, animal feed, industrial, and energy uses.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory tests and analyze data for various purposes, including production, pollution control, quality control, and minor research.
• Test and analyze products such as feed, beverage, and industrial alcohol to determine if they meet plant specifications prior to release.
• Release in-spec vessels and report out-of-spec vessels.
• Test and analyze production samples, such as fermenters, beerstills, rectifiers, and report uncharacteristic results.
• Document results of tests, readings, etc., in logbooks and in TLC (Total Lab Client).
• Complete certificates of analysis.
• Prepare chemical solutions for use in the lab.
• Maintain and calibrate all lab equipment and related field instrumentation.
• Adhere to all FDA, GMP, TTB, USP, EPA, OSHA, and employer standards and guidelines.
• Support and comply with all food safety, quality, and legality requirements.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in a Scientific Discipline or 2-3 years of hands-on industry laboratory experience if lacking a scientific degree.
• 1 year laboratory, quality, GMP experience.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work flexible shifts and schedules and a desire for overtime.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Food Science Degree.
• Any experience in the Food & Beverage industry.

Work Environment

The position is on-site at a regulated environment with 3rd shift hours from Monday to Friday, averaging 45-50 hours weekly. The lab is small and fast-paced, with a total of four lab technicians. Instrumentation includes NIR, pH meters, ovens, and other industry-specific equipment. Candidates must be flexible for shifts and occasional weekend work. The work environment is very hands-on, and there are opportunities for long-term growth and potential leadership roles as the current lab manager approaches retirement.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
