Lab Technician

Job Description

This position is for an environmental testing laboratory in the Tacoma, Washington area. The main function of a lab technician is to support laboratory operations through general maintenance of laboratory and supply storage areas, equipment, instruments, and supplies. The typical lab technician is expected to use general lab methods, techniques, equipment, and instrumentation in compliance with quality assurance programs and standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve samples from Sample Control for analysis.
• Perform sample preparation including, but not limited to: aliquot samples, spike and trace samples, prepare reagents, bottle samples, prepare concentrations, separation, sonication, and liquid rack set up.
• Resolve discrepancies and anomalies to ensure samples are properly labeled.
• Prepare general lab paperwork such as recording analysis results, tracking samples, bench sheets, and lab logbooks.
• Wash lab glassware to prepare for next day's samples.
• Stock lab supplies.

• Ability to work independently and manage one's time.
• Ability to analyze data and accurately document and record results.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Familiarity with basic lab techniques preferred
• No scientific experience necessary; training on all methods will be provided.
• Candidates must be okay with flexible schedule, occasionally Mondays off depending on workload or later into the evenings on weekdays.

Work Environment

Afternoon shift: Monday - Friday, 11 AM - 7 PM primarily, with flexibility required for some weekends and opportunity for overtime. The lab tech will be assigned to either Organics Prep or Sample Receiving. Some part-time opportunity available as well.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
