Laboratory Assistant - Blood Bank (1st shift)
Job Description
As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a crucial role in receiving and processing donated blood products. You will ensure that all blood products are appropriately stored and accurately entered into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) following standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role is a 12 month contract with potential to become a permanent role, or transition to another lab within the hospital network long term.
Responsibilities
- Receive donated blood products from vendors.
- Process donated blood products by reading blood bags and entering information into LIS.
- Follow SOPs for receiving and processing blood products.
- Appropriately store blood products according to protocol.
Essential Skills
- Experience in laboratory processing and accessioning.
- Proficiency in data entry.
- High school diploma with lab experience or an associate degree in a science field.
Qualifications
- MUST have a 4 year degree, preferably in a life science (B.S. in Biology, microbiology, virology, molecular genetics, pre med, etc.).
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Ability to follow SOPs and protocols.
Work Environment
Shifts: 10 AM - 6:30 PM (schedules have weekend rotation they rotate on an every 3rd weekend and get a day off during the week. There is a holiday rotation working 1 summer and 1 winter holiday. They have the 6 defined holidays (New Years, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day).
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00
