Laboratory Technician

Job Description

The Infectious Disease Institute's Genomics and Microbiology Solutions Lab (IDI-Gems) is seeking a Laboratory Technician for their DNA testing lab. The lab technician will be responsible for conducting pathogen testing which includes DNA extractions, finalizing assays, PCR, and more. The majority of the testing will involve DNA extraction, sequencing, and MetaG. The technician will also conduct other molecular work including PCR and pipetting, and will work with a variety of samples including tissue, plant, and insect. Proper protocols, documentation, and processes must be followed, and the technician will utilize the LIMS system.

Responsibilities

• Conduct DNA extractions and finalize assays
• Perform PCR and other molecular techniques
• Handle a variety of samples including tissue, plant, and insect
• Utilize the LIMS system for sample management
• Follow proper laboratory protocols and documentation processes
• Ensure aseptic techniques are followed
• Wear appropriate PPE and adhere to lab safety protocols

Essential Skills

• Experience with DNA extractions
• Proficiency in PCR testing and qPCR
• Knowledge of molecular sequencing and DNA sequencing
• Experience with specimen processing and pipetting
• Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, etc.)

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with data analysis and documentation
• Familiarity with aseptic techniques
• Prior experience wearing PPE and following lab protocols

Work Environment

The laboratory is housed within the Infectious Disease Institute. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with some flexibility on start time and occasional overtime as needed. PPE will be provided. This is a small team environment, as it is a start-up lab.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
