Description
We are seeking a skilled-level Chemical Laboratory Support Specialist for our client Forest Product Division in Edmonton. This role will provide essential laboratory support under the direction of scientists from various locations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to follow directives, and a commitment to accuracy in recording and reporting results. This position is crucial for the effective and timely commercialization of key products and provides ancillary support for operations in North America.

Key Responsibilities:
• Synthesize thermosetting resins to support current business and sustainability initiatives, focusing on alternative raw materials.
• Conduct physical and chemical testing of adhesives, resins, and other polymers using analytical methods such as gel permeation chromatography and thermal analysis, along with wet chemical analyses.
• Prepare and perform physical property tests on laboratory-scale composites.
• Assist R&D teams for new product initiative, including resin synthesis, sample preparation, testing, and other customer service activities.
• Prepare application testing examples, such as oriented strand board (OSB), and test the physical properties of various composites and coatings.
• Compile and prepare laboratory reports detailing methodologies and findings from conducted studies.
• Adhere to safety standards while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
• Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and records.
Qualifications:
• B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Material Science, or a related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
• A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the capacity to effectively engage with all levels of personnel at Hexion and customer sites.
• Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating technical professionals within a high-performance, team-oriented environment.
• Highly organized, self-directed, and capable of managing time effectively.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical analysis programs such as JMP and/or Minitab.
