Job Title: Lead Data Scientist
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Lead Data Scientist who will play a critical part in advancing research and development using cutting-edge data science techniques. You will provide expertise and technical products related to data science and engineering, including time-series data processing, multimodal data modeling, algorithm development, anomaly detection, optimization models, tuning large language models, and advances in AI/ML.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Management (20%):
- Lead and mentor data scientists and machine learning engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
- Provide regular feedback through one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and coaching.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and stakeholders, to define project goals and technical requirements.
- Ensure adherence to best practices, standards, and company policies.
- Hands-On Technical Work (80%):
- Build and maintain models for various business problems and content recommendations.
- Support the construction and implementation of data measurement frameworks to track key performance indicators and assess the impact of product features.
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including product managers, stakeholders, and leadership.
Essential Skills
- 7 years of direct experience working with complex data.
- Proven experience applying a strong scientific foundation to contextualize and interpret multimodal data.
- Applied research and development experience with data preparation & analysis, data cleaning (including signal processing), knowledge extraction & interpretation, coding, and deployment.
- Experience developing, designing, constructing, and maintaining data structures, models, physical databases, and algorithms.
- Experience leading predictive modeling and programming, especially with unstructured data.
- Applied research experience using machine learning/artificial intelligence techniques for detection/classification and prediction.
- Understanding of underlying theories and experience developing solutions using advanced modeling approaches such as machine learning, reinforcement learning, algorithm design, data analysis, image analysis, feature extraction, and pattern recognition.
- Ability to translate technical findings to non-technical people; experience writing technical reports and grant proposals.
- Comfort in ambiguity to lead research related to a specific domain and provide actionable recommendations.
- Strong visualization skills to turn data into insights.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s in Engineering, Computational Neuroscience, Quantitative Physiology, Data Science, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related field with strong experience in data processing and modeling.
- Experience in predictive models and statistical thinking.
- Experience leading a team of data scientists.
- Ability to probe into areas of statistics to ensure model effectiveness.
- Experience with NLP and diverse areas of AI/ML.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a United States security clearance.
Work Environment
The work environment involves hands-on technical work and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The role requires flexibility to transition between different phases of projects, including concept development and practical implementation. The company is growing and branching out into new areas, including AI generation of learning content and commercial trucking. The position requires both technical expertise and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $56.00 - $67.00/hr.
