Job Title: Mechanical Piping Designer
Job Description
The Project Engineering Piping/Mechanical Designer is responsible for the completion of piping design and drafting duties related to all areas of the plant and associated engineering disciplines. This individual works independently on job assignments, taking basic project information and producing finished engineering drawings suitable for bidding and construction. Documents produced include engineering flow diagrams, civil drawings, detailed equipment arrangements, installation details, piping plans, piping isometrics, electrical drawings, miscellaneous construction, and as-built drawings. The design/drafter may be responsible for making project design decisions.
Responsibilities
- Make civil and mechanical system design decisions.
- Apply sound project design engineering principles.
- Ensure systems and equipment are designed and installed in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Assist with project reviews and system design.
- Review field installations to ensure compliance with design.
- Verify and complete as-built drawings.
- Develop construction drawings.
- Work directly with Project Engineers, Project Planners, and Construction Field Coordinators to define project implementation requirements.
- Develop equipment and material take-off and specifications.
- Survey and perform field verification as required to support project design.
- Develop site plans, equipment layouts, piping plans, and isometrics (60% of time).
- Update as-built drawings (30% of time).
- Assist Project Construction Coordinator as needed with construction activities (5% of time).
- Work with Project Planner to establish resources (5% of time).

Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate degree in Drafting/Design Technology or equivalent (optional)
- Excellent AutoCAD operating skills along with 3D design skills (Autodesk Inventor)
- Knowledge of surveying and field verification techniques
- Understanding of mechanical and civil design practices and regulations
- In-depth knowledge of design codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., OSHA, ADA, ASME)
- Previous manufacturing experience, particularly with process-related equipment (e.g., pumps, piping, heat exchangers)
- Experience with Leica 3D Point Cloud Scanner with Leica Register 360 Software (optional)
Work Environment
This position is in a manufacturing environment that requires the ability to ascend and descend stairs on a periodic basis and the capability of lifting and carrying 40 lbs. The role requires accessing all areas of the plant and working during core business hours at the Muscatine Plant. Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support plant activities.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
