Job Title: Medical Lab Scientist II

Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated Medical Lab Scientist II to join our team. Responsibilities for this role are interchangeable with those of medical laboratory scientists (MLS), medical technologists, or clinical laboratory scientists. The ideal candidate will be responsible for determining the acceptability of specimens for testing, performing routine and complex technical procedures, and ensuring the proper functionality of laboratory instrumentation. This role requires technical decision-making skills, the ability to prepare and evaluate new reagents or controls, and a commitment to reporting accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with the processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements.
• Minimum 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• Proficiency in Chemistry, Hematology, UA, and Coag testing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• State Medical Technologist license may be required.
• ASCP or AMT certification preferred or required.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
• Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.

Work Environment

This position is located in Wichita, KS, at the VC Hospital St. Francis. The role requires flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs and primarily involves working the 3rd shift.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00
