Medical Laboratory Scientist
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Microbiology Medical Laboratory Scientist to work in various bench areas including culture processing and setup, gram stain preparation, staining and reading, molecular testing using the person and Verigene, positive blood culture setup, and susceptibility setups.
Responsibilities
- Process and set up cultures.
- Prepare, stain, and read gram stains.
- Perform molecular testing using the person and Verigene.
- Set up positive blood cultures.
- Conduct susceptibility setups.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or biological science.
- Associates in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) is also acceptable.
- Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certification with ASCP or equivalent agency, or eligibility within 6 months.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Successful completion of a microbiology clinical rotation in an approved program.
- Experience in culture setup, molecular testing, and gram staining.
Work Environment
The position involves working in a microbiology laboratory. The standard hours are Monday to Friday from 2:30 pm to 11 pm, with one day off per week that can be flexible with scheduling needs. The role also requires working every 3rd weekend, with days off during the workweek being flexible depending on scheduling needs. The shifts can be 8-hour or 10-hour, and there may be opportunities for flexibility in start times.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
