Job Title: Clinical Lab Scientist/ Medical Lab Technologist
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated CLS/MLT to join our laboratory team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting laboratory tests, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the quality of test results. This role is crucial for providing accurate diagnostic information that will impact patient care, particularly for cancer patients. You will gain unique experience working in an oncology lab, and enjoy the benefit of no weekend or night shifts.
Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
- Send specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in-house.
- Process incoming orders for lab testing, including reference laboratory specimens.
- Perform specimen analysis of Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens.
- Maintain and operate all laboratory equipment.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance as indicated.
- Adhere to quality control policies and document all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance.
- Record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents.
- Participate in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year.
- Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differentials.
- Perform microscopic examination of urinary sediment.
- Record results on appropriate worksheets and computer systems, and perform file maintenance.
- Process specimens for send-out testing.
- Follow laboratory policies whenever test systems are not within established acceptable levels of performance.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and either correct the problem or notify a supervisor.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance standards.
- Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists.
- Verify all critical results and document with accurate follow-up.
- Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure all supplies are viable before using them in patient testing.
- Prepare reagents, stains, and other chemical solutions as needed.
- Restock the laboratory area as needed.
- Process in-house and incoming results for charting.
- Chart patient results in a timely manner as needed.
Essential Skills
- Certification as a CLS/ MLT by the ASCP or AMT.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program, resulting in an associate degree.
- 3 years of experience preferred.
- Generalist knowledge in laboratory practices.
- Understanding of CLIA regulations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in an oncology lab.
- Ability to impact patient care positively during difficult times.
Work Environment
The position operates Monday through Friday with shifts starting between 7am-9am and ending between 3:30pm-5:30pm. There are no weekend or night shifts. The work environment is professional and focused on providing high-quality care for cancer patients.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.
