Job Title: Phlebotomist - Fairfax

Job Description

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate, update patient information, and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal).
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples at the required temperature.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Work Environment

The position operates in a pediatric clinic with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00
