Job Title: Phlebotomist - New Port Richey, FL

Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, ensuring proper labeling, and maintaining the integrity of specimens during transport.

Responsibilities

• Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.
• Update patient information as necessary.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection to patients.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place them in appropriate collection containers/tubes.
• Accurately label and follow specific procedures for transporting specimens to maintain their integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in patient service centers, diagnostic labs, or medical settings.
• Data entry and customer service skills.
• Experience with specimen processing and handling.

Work Environment

The work schedule is from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The environment is fast-paced, requiring attention to detail and compliance with safety regulations. The role offers great benefits, bonuses, and opportunities for growth within the company.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00
