Phlebotomist Job Opportunity!

Job Description

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections to patients in a clear and courteous manner.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
• Update patient information and collect/store specimens as per established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures to patients.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Understand and follow all physician orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature protocols.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of experience in a related field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Strong customer service skills.
• Experience with specimen processing and data entry.
• Ability to follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.

Work Environment

The work hours are from 7:00AM to 3:00PM. The work environment includes a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. The role involves interacting with patients and handling various laboratory equipment and technologies.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
