Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. You will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections to patients, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
• Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperatures.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific protocols for specimen transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of phlebotomy experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2 years of phlebotomy experience with verifiable experience drawing on all age groups.
• 1 year of customer service experience.
• Experience speaking with nurses and MDs.

The work schedule is from 10pm to 6:30am with every-other-weekend requirement (i.e., off Wednesday if working Saturday). Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.10 - $17.10/hr.
