Job Description

Out-patient:

• Prepare patients for blood draws, explaining procedures and answering questions.
• Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures for outpatients of all age groups.
• Label and process samples for laboratory testing.
• Adhere to health and safety guidelines to maintain a sanitary work environment.
• Help patients remain calm during blood draws, providing reassurance and support.
• Accurately update patient information in the database.
• Work under the supervision of physicians and follow their directions.
• Drawing blood throughout day
• Average of 6 to 12 draws an hour
• In same room most of shift

In-patient:

• Verify patient identity using ID, medical records, or other means.
• Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures to collect blood samples.
• Label and transport samples to the laboratory for testing.
• Reassure and assist patients, especially those who are nervous or have special needs.
• Follow health and safety standards, including proper disposal of needles and use of PPE
• Mornings and early afternoon heavy draws average between 4-8 an hour
• Will move through hospital facility to collect draws for patients staying in hospital
• Will get called into emergency/code situations to collect blood samples
• Collects and recollects other specimen samples
• Spin down and freezing of specimens

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Phlebotomy experience preferred
• Phlebotomy certification or diploma preferred
• Must be proficient in the following:
  • Venipuncture,
  • Data entry
  • Customer service
  • Medical assistant
  • Blood draw
  • Venipuncture
  • Specimen collection
  • Specimen processing

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.25 - $27.00/hr.
