Phlebotomist
Job Description
Out-patient:
- Prepare patients for blood draws, explaining procedures and answering questions.
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures for outpatients of all age groups.
- Label and process samples for laboratory testing.
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines to maintain a sanitary work environment.
- Help patients remain calm during blood draws, providing reassurance and support.
- Accurately update patient information in the database.
- Work under the supervision of physicians and follow their directions.
- Drawing blood throughout day
- Average of 6 to 12 draws an hour
- In same room most of shift
In-patient:
- Verify patient identity using ID, medical records, or other means.
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures to collect blood samples.
- Label and transport samples to the laboratory for testing.
- Reassure and assist patients, especially those who are nervous or have special needs.
- Follow health and safety standards, including proper disposal of needles and use of PPE
- Mornings and early afternoon heavy draws average between 4-8 an hour
- Will move through hospital facility to collect draws for patients staying in hospital
- Will get called into emergency/code situations to collect blood samples
- Collects and recollects other specimen samples
- Spin down and freezing of specimens
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
- Phlebotomy certification or diploma preferred
- Must be proficient in the following:
- Venipuncture,
- Data entry
- Customer service
- Medical assistant
- Blood draw
- Venipuncture
- Specimen collection
- Specimen processing

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.25 - $27.00/hr.
