Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Engine Calibration Engineer who will be responsible for generating optimal base engine calibrations. The ideal candidate will meet all program objectives in terms of performance, control stability, and lowest fuel consumption while minimizing engine out and tailpipe emissions levels. The role involves the setup and control of all engine sensors and actuators for all engine operating conditions under both steady state and transient engine operation.
Responsibilities
- Generate optimal base engine calibrations meeting program objectives.
- Setup and control all engine sensors and actuators for all engine operating conditions.
- Conduct engine hardware and systems testing.
- Support other teams with standardized and specialized engine test requests.
- Plan and coordinate day-to-day activities of an engine and powertrain dynamometer.
- Collaborate with technicians and laboratory support engineers.
- Develop test plans and timelines, and generate reports to communicate program status.
- Evaluate new engine hardware and powertrain technologies for future and carry over applications.
- Analyze and solve complex system problems related to engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, and base engine calibration development.
- Manipulate and utilize large and complex sets of engine mapping data.
- Participate in the decision process of base engine hardware selection and base engine calibration to achieve functional objectives.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree with 3-5 years of experience in the development and calibration of gasoline spark ignition engines; or a Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 1-3 years of experience in the development and calibration of gasoline spark ignition engines.
- Strong knowledge of internal combustion engines.
- Expertise and knowledge of engine control strategies and complex optimization strategies.
- Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data.
- Working knowledge of engine analysis and calibration tools, emissions development, engine technologies, and competitive products.
- Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university (preferred).
- Experience and overall knowledge in emissions development, powertrain systems development, and controls systems development.
- Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques.
- Proficiency in advanced simulation tools.
- Proficiency in Matlab / Simulink.
Work Environment
This role requires onsite presence at CTC anywhere from 3-5 days a week. The work environment involves collaboration with technicians and laboratory support engineers, and the use of advanced simulation tools and engine analysis and calibration tools. The candidate will be expected to manage day-to-day activities of an engine and powertrain dynamometer and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $44.17 - $44.17/hr.
