Job Description
Develop and improve molding processes for new or existing products by supporting production on a daily basis. Create standard operating procedures for new or existing products. Manage and execute all new mold validations through our molding test request process by creating the proper documentation to support ongoing production with relevant managers. Prepare all specifications of all plastic processes by executing all gauges to maintain optimal quality for our 24/7 injection molding and assembly operation. Evaluate all alternatives and consolidations of plastic resins for existing or new product development. Validate processes for part quality and cycle times to reduce scrap and improve productivity by adhering to our specified requirements and driving root cause analysis.
Responsibilities
- Develop and improve molding processes for new or existing products.
- Create standard operating procedures for new or existing products.
- Manage and execute new mold validations through the molding test request process.
- Prepare all specifications of plastic processes to maintain optimal quality.
- Support cost requests for improvement projects to enhance safety and quality.
- Evaluate alternatives and consolidations of plastic resins for product development.
- Validate processes for part quality and cycle times to reduce scrap and improve productivity.
- Respond to internal or external part or process non-conformities and complete required paperwork.
- Provide engineering feedback and communicate with relevant managers regarding process controls.
- Provide guidance to operators, setup/process technicians, and shift leads pertaining to part quality.
- Adhere to the Quality Management System and focus on continuous improvements.
- Review PM schedules and define key equipment parameters with support from the IM manufacturing engineer.
- Attend and lead Kaizen events.
- Provide advice on fixturing and tooling, conduct time studies, and troubleshoot quality and process issues.
- Support PFMEA efforts and participate in DFMEA and control plans for products.
- Perform ergonomic assessments and drive safety improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferred Plastics Engineering).
- 5 years of hands-on experience in Injection Molding.
- Experience with mold and machine setup.
- Strong knowledge of process development and troubleshooting (Scientific molding principles).
- Ability to use data to drive improvements.
- Experience with robotics and CNCs (Fanuc, Wittmann, Universal/Collaborative, HAAS, Fadahl).
- Experience deploying Continuous Flow Manufacturing, lean principles, and statistical control.
- Working knowledge of part inspection, SPC, test methods, and associated equipment.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and communicating engineering drawings, specifications, and project plans.
- Capability to write detailed technical specifications to ensure process and product capability.
- Comprehension and experience in financial analysis, budget attainment, ROI, forecasting, RFQs, bid analysis, material & tooling negotiation, contract negotiation, and execution.
- Effective communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
- Proficiency in English.
- Ability to thrive in a team-based environment.
- Solid computer skills, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- SolidWorks and AutoCAD experience, preferred.
- Knowledge in ERP systems (e.g., QAD, SAP, JDE).
- Proficiency in Spanish, a plus.
Work Environment
You will be responsible for developing and qualifying processes at the injection molding machines for new mold validations, troubleshooting, or improvements. This role supports lean manufacturing activities, independently diagnoses equipment issues, and integrates improved production practices for safety and capacity by implementing cost improvement measures. The work environment is dynamic and requires adherence to safety protocols and continuous improvement principles.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $82000.00 - $152000.00/hr.
