Job Title: Production Engineer

Job Description

The Production Engineer is responsible for supporting packaging and formulation production operations. This role ensures production line efficiencies, manages lean manufacturing projects, assists with equipment installations, and troubleshoots machinery. The Production Engineer will act as a subject matter expert and support capital projects from inception to completion, including equipment upgrades and ROI assessments. Mechanical aptitude is essential due to the mechanical nature of the production equipment.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting equipment and machines
• Tracking line efficiency
• Monitoring and following up on changes to ensure impact and ROI are achieved
• Coordinating and leading continuous improvement projects aimed at waste reduction and efficiency improvements
• Aligning with cross-functional business partners to prioritize projects
• Developing and implementing solutions using the DMAIC problem-solving approach
• Acting as a technical expert with broad knowledge of packaging equipment and associated technology
• Providing training to operations and various support groups as a subject matter expert
• Solving complex technical problems by applying engineering principles and techniques
• Supporting operations to meet compliance with laws such as OSHA, Environmental, Safety, and cGMP
• Organizing and generating data to prepare project scopes, cost estimates, and economic justifications
• Providing engineering support for equipment installations and process improvements
• Interfacing with multiple departments, consultants, and contractors to provide direction and support

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Engineering Management)
• Experience leading and managing continuous improvement/lean six sigma projects
• Experience conducting root cause analysis and troubleshooting on machinery/equipment
• Understanding of engineering drawings, flowcharts, and schematics
• Project management experience
• 3-5 years of working experience in a relevant field

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in pharmaceutical packaging or consumer goods packaging (bottling, case packaging, labeling)
• Experience working within quality systems and FDA-regulated environments

Work Environment

The Production Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and work on a team with six other Production Engineers in Plant 7, the packaging and formulation plant in Allegan. The standard hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with occasional off-shift hours required to collaborate with the production team. The role involves working both independently and cross-functionally with other departments. Benefits include 10 days of PTO, 6 paid holidays, and access to Udemy after six months of employment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $52.88/hr.
