Job Title: QC Lab Technician

Job Description

This position supports Quality Control for the Manufacturing location in Metro Detroit. The QC Lab Technician will perform testing of production samples, reactivity, color, and other bench chemistry techniques. The working hours are from 7am-4pm, sometimes extending to 5pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality control testing of coating formulations including viscosity, color, temperature, pH, sag, flow, curing time, and appearance.
• Prepare lab scale paint formulations, apply, and evaluate properties such as cure time, hardness, abrasion, slip, chemical/UV resistance, and color consistency.
• Perform and maintain calibration, certification, maintenance, upkeep, and cleanliness of lab equipment and facility.
• Prepare standards and solutions needed to maintain calibration of instruments.
• Assist with writing or revising work instructions.
• Audit quality documents and follow up with production on missing information or quality-related questions.
• Document non-conformances.
• Generate Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and review for accuracy.
• Optimize existing procedures.
• Manage archival of Quality Documents and retains.
• Work with technical service resources to efficiently relay QC information, including retain examination and retesting.
• Ensure safe working practices in industrial and all environments.

Essential Skills

• Experience in laboratory work, chemistry, quality control, and manufacturing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of titration, chemical engineering, paint, epoxy, coatings, and polyurethane.
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 1 year of experience in the industry, preferably with coatings, paints, or epoxy.
• Quality control experience at a manufacturer.

Work Environment

The Paint Lab (QC Lab) is where the majority of the time will be spent testing samples and verifying they meet specifications. The role requires going onto the production floor to collect samples from each batch. The company has a family-oriented culture and environment where everyone wears multiple hats and collaborates effectively. The dress code is casual, but lab coats, goggles, and gloves must be worn at all times when in the lab.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50000.00 - $60000.00/yr.
