Job Title: Resident Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced Resident Engineer to lead construction management activities on infrastructure, rail, and transit projects throughout the New York Area. This position will require significant time working in the field, serving as the field point of contact for the client and project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise an assigned field office typically consisting of inspectors, cost and schedule professionals, and office engineers.
- Prepare inspectors’ daily work schedules to ensure site safety monitoring, technical oversight, and quality of construction.
- Plan and coordinate inspection and construction management activities.
- Work in the project office with the management team.
- Provide supervision of the field inspection teams working various shifts.
- Interface with multiple contractors to ensure coordination of construction activities.
- Evaluate, resolve, and provide solutions to contractors and construction inspectors for constructability issues encountered at construction sites.
- Acquire railroad and transit force account resources in a timely manner to meet aggressive project schedules and support ongoing construction.
- Develop and implement an effective schedule of values for payments, change order control, and evaluation system.
- Evaluate and validate contractor’s change order requests against contract documents.
- Negotiate change orders and schedule impacts, making recommendations to the client.
- Perform inspection and resident engineering activities in active transit system environments, adhering to construction safety standards, operation requirements, and force account support services.
- Develop and implement Construction Management Plans, including confirming progress, reviewing issues and actions, and ensuring quality and safety.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field of study.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in resident engineering, construction management, project management, engineering, and related fields on major transportation/infrastructure projects for public agencies.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and presentation abilities in internal project settings with management team, and external project stakeholders including client management leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, staff supervision, strong negotiation skills, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- OSHA 30-hour safety course is preferred.
- MTA Track Safety training is highly desirable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- NJ Turnpike / NJDOT construction management experience.
- Experience managing projects of $5 million .
- Experience in budget, scheduling, cost control, and traffic control.
Work Environment
This position requires working 5 days on-site, either in a job trailer or a nearby office to a project. The company provides a laptop and a company car for work purposes. Additional benefits include a $50 phone bill expense, partial health and dental premium coverage, a 401k match typically between 4%-5% depending on company performance, educational benefits up to $2k a year towards tuition for relevant certifications or college classes, and a year-end bonus equivalent to one week's paycheck if the company performs well. The company engages in diversified work including rail, transportation, airport, bridges, metropolitan work, tunnels, terminals, historic places, and major infrastructure projects.

The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $200000.00/yr.
