We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Energy Engineer to join our dynamic team, where you will play a crucial role in driving the implementation of Utility Energy Efficiency Programs. Leveraging your expertise in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) technology, you will lead junior engineers and manage a diverse team of program staff, contractors, and inspectors. In this position, you will also collaborate closely with Con Edison to develop and execute energy efficiency projects tailored for Small Businesses and Nonprofit customers.
As a Senior Energy Engineer, you will engage in the design, planning, and execution of initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption, optimizing resource use, and promoting sustainable practices across various sectors. Your responsibilities will encompass project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and providing strategic direction to contractors and internal teams, ultimately laying the groundwork for a smooth transition into project management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Spearhead the development and implementation of energy efficiency programs, including projects focused on buildings, appliances, transportation, and industrial processes.
- Collaborate with Program Managers to set clear goals, timelines, and budgets for project initiatives.
- Serve as the main technical liaison between the engineering team and other departments, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
- Coordinate with internal teams, external vendors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of programs.
- Oversee project timelines, allocate resources, and manage forecasts to deliver exceptional outcomes.
- Identify areas for improvement and propose strategies to enhance overall program performance.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of energy efficiency initiatives.
- Perform regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret energy consumption and savings data to inform strategic decision-making.
- Prepare detailed reports and present program progress to management and stakeholders.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including state agencies, utility providers, and industry partners.
- Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and meetings, showcasing our commitment to energy efficiency.
- Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in the energy efficiency sector.
- Mentor and guide program staff and interns, fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering environment.
- Conduct training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of the program team as they transition into various project management roles.
Job Requirements / Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field); a Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy efficiency, sustainability, or a related field, with a strong foundation in project management and program implementation.
- In-depth knowledge of New York State Clean Heat programs and NYC Local Laws 87 & 97, as well as HVAC rebate opportunities.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, enabling you to make informed decisions that drive program success.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences clearly.
- Proven ability to engage stakeholders and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, data analysis tools, and project management software.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal energy efficiency regulations, policies, and standards.
- Certification as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or similar certification is a plus.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.67 - $58.00/hr.
