Job Title: Substation Engineer (hybrid work schedule)
Job Description
As a Substation Project Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the preparation of scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring that these are met. You will be responsible for both physical and protection/control (P&C) design aspects of substations, preparing calculations for various studies and reports, coordinating design activities with other departments, and effectively communicating project activities with managers, clients, and others as needed.
Responsibilities
- Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring that these are met.
- Understand physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material.
- Understand protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring.
- Prepare calculations for studies and reports such as grounding, lighting protection, and AC/DC load studies.
- Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.
- Coordinate design activities with other departments such as Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission Line.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate project activities with manager, clients, and others as needed.
- Work independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced Engineers in Training (EITs) and Designers.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software such as PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in substation design.
- Experience performing aspects associated with substation design, including One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements, Sections, Grounding, Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, Material Lists, Relay and Control Systems, Control Schematics, and Wiring Diagrams.
- Experience with substation design for 12kV through 500kV is desired; experience up to 765kV is an added benefit.
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm is desired.
- Some travel may be required.
Work Environment
Projects are located in Tennessee, including TVA and Data Centers. While the preferred locations for candidates are Nashville, Chattanooga, or Knoxville, candidates from anywhere in Tennessee will be considered.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $55.00/hr.
