Job Description
We are seeking a Survey Instrument Operator to join our Land Surveying Team. This is an entry-level opportunity, ideal for individuals with 1-3 years of experience in field surveying activities, equipment maintenance, and data collection.
Responsibilities
- Assist and take directions from the survey crew chief to complete daily work activities.
- Understand the basic operation of surveying equipment and data collection standards and guidelines.
- Properly set up back site, foresight, and survey instruments to ensure work accuracy.
- Ensure that all necessary supplies and equipment are loaded in the company vehicle.
- Assist the crew chief with company truck maintenance, cleanliness, and the daily stowing of surveying equipment.
- Aid in maintaining a safe and respectful work environment by following company policies and procedures.
- Execute Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) accurately and participate in pre and post job briefs.
- Escalate potential hazards and unsafe working conditions.
- Maintain good client relations to foster and perpetuate long-term relationships.
- Represent the company in the field with a professional image through proper conduct and presentable appearance.
- Follow guidelines and company standards set forth by the Geomatics department.
Essential Skills
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- No experience required but must be willing to learn.
- Hardworking and detail-oriented.
- Punctual and dependable.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Successfully pass a motor vehicle records check, drug test, and functional assessment.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with managers and peers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Exposure to CAD / Mapping work within the SUE discipline is a plus.
Work Environment
Work will primarily be outside with varying environmental conditions. It involves long-term standing and frequent walking as well as common hazards encountered while maneuvering through project sites. Must be able to carry, lift, and push/pull up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Must be able to stand up or walk between 8-12 hours a day. Weekend, overtime, and/or overnight work and travel may be required. Additional physical duties may be required as necessary. The office is located in Raleigh or Durham, NC. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
