Job Title: Test Engineer - Project Engineer
Job Description
The main function of a mechanical engineer in this role is to research and investigate the design, functionality, and maintenance of mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes. The ideal candidate will have the ability to create engineering drawings and interpret blueprints. This role involves lab testing of electric drive components, specifically motors, generators, and power electronics. The team is part of the integrated drive train team.
Responsibilities
- Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices.
- Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine time and cost feasibility for project completion.
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and provide recommendations to the maintenance crew.
- Assist drafters in developing the structural design of products using tools, equipment, or software.
- Develop test plans with internal clients from design teams, virtual product development, and controls teams.
- Coordinate modifications and instrumentation for motors and generators.
- Execute tests and ensure quality data collection.
- Perform data analysis, summarize results, and make recommendations.
- Lead or assist with weekly update meetings, create presentations, and documents.
- Troubleshoot testing issues and work with various groups to resolve them.
Essential Skills
- Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving ability.

- Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings, and common computations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Previous experience with computer applications and software related to engineering, such as Computer-Aided Design (CAD).
- Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous lab testing experience, preferably with motors, generators, or powertrain components.
- Experience with product development, including design, validation, and implementation.
- Experience with mechanical systems such as pumps and hydraulic systems.
- Data acquisition experience, preferably with Dewey soft or other systems.
- Strong organizational skills, good documentation, and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with different data acquisition systems.
- Internships or university research experience.
- Willingness to relocate and attend on-site interviews.
Work Environment
The role involves spending approximately 30% of the time at a desk and the rest in the lab or shop area. The environment requires collaboration with other engineers and team leads. The position demands hands-on lab testing and interaction with various mechanical systems and data acquisition tools.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $32.50/hr.
