Job Title: Transportation Design Engineer

Job Description

Design transportation improvement projects with guidance from a Sr. Engineer or Project Manager. Follow local, state, and federal guidelines for transportation, traffic, and drainage designs. Use guidelines from IDOT, ITE, NACTO, and MUTCD. Develop project specifications and quantity estimates. Develop horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadways and drainage projects. Apply the Highway Capacity Manual for traffic designs. Prepare plans and bid documents using tools like MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, and Excel. Coordinate with utilities to document locations and analyze conflicts.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation is required.
• B.S Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• EIT and/or IL PE license is desired.
• Proficiency in transportation/roadway engineering, including roadway and highway design.
• Experience with Geopak and other relevant tools.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with clients and participate in public meetings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 3 years of experience as a transportation design engineer with a focus on roadway engineering (IDOT and municipal/county clients).
• Rural and urban drainage design experience is desired.
• Ability to mentor and develop less experienced engineers.

Work Environment

The position is open as the company continues to grow and has a large amount of backlog. The company offers a flexible work/life balance, making it an ideal opportunity for those seeking stability and professional growth. The company operates on a hybrid schedule with 3 days in person and flexibility for 2 days remote, starting off with 5 days in the office. This individual would sit in the Chicago office and report to the transportation team lead while working under sr staff. The team consists of 5-6 people. The office space is brand new, open space with 15 ft. ceilings, a kitchen, and is located right downtown. This individual will primarily work in the office with occasional site visits, focusing on phase I and II projects involving state and county roads.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $78347.00 - $101504.00
