Head Start Food Service Specialist

Program: Head Start Location: TBA Position: Food Service Specialist Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year Salary Range: $34,959 - $43,699 Grade 11 Summary of Responsibilities: Prepare meals following the daily menu, using approved recipes and following good food handling practices and kitchen hygiene; or if food is catered by a vendor, receive prepared food, follow appropriate guidelines for receiving prepared food from a vendor, including the maintenance of a temperature log of the food received; when necessary, prepare and process the food for the children at the center. Assist with classroom nutrition education; and maintain appropriate CACFP records. Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED with proof of completion of a food service training program; or the equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge of kitchen equipment.
• One to two years experience working in quantity cooking, preferably preparing meals for pre-school children.
• One year of supervision experience.
• Requires the ability to prepare food in a commercial, institutional, or daycare kitchen.
• Requires good administrative, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
• Requires the health and physical capability to work in a kitchen; and to bend, lift and/or move up to 40lbs.; and to be on feet for upwards of three hours at a time.
