The Inventory Controller role is one with a unique set of skills and responsibilities that can ultimately be very impactful to the success of an organization.The role is responsible for managing and controlling a company's inventory levels to ensure adequate and accurate stock levels for operations, and, for handling inventory-related tasks in the warehouse. Some of the specific tasks are : Liaise with end user departments to determine what items are required to be kept on hand and the level of criticality as well as which items are no longer required and can be removed from inventory. Monitor inventory levels and replenish as needed using SAP to release orders either directly to supplier where firm pricing is in place or to Procurement to obtain quotes and release the orders. Schedule, oversee and reconcile Cycle Counts including multiple yearly counts for critical spares, items with expiry dates and items requiring scheduled maintenance. Oversee warehouse layout and storage locations keeping in mind fast moving items, items requiring scheduled maintenance and accessibility, items impacted by weather conditions, hazardous goods, and items subject to theft. Inventory reporting and analysis of turns, costs, and lead times to determine optimum reorder points to maintain sufficient quantities on hand without storing levels. Set up and perform month end bulk reconciliations.This role requires attention to detail so that potential problems are identified before they become major concerns.Due to the direct impact of the Inventory Controller's responsibilities on the warehouse, Inventory Controllers are typically located in the warehouse and provide supervision, guidance, direction and coaching to the warehouse team members.The Inventory Controller will also be responsible for Item Master maintenance. This includes cataloging new items (requires knowledge of best practice in assigning commodity groups, criticality, seasonal identifiers, FIFO identifiers for items with expiry dates etc.), updating part numbers and descriptions, identifiers for items that are no longer required, identifying duplicates in the warehouse and on stock add requests.
