JOB SUMMARY :

The Capacity Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Carrier Sales team across all branches at Action Enterprise Logistics (AEL), ensuring timely and efficient freight coverage while maintaining exceptional service levels for our customers. This leadership role is critical in developing and maintaining strong carrier relationships, optimizing capacity procurement, and driving profitability. The Capacity manager will lead strategic initiatives as it relates to capacity and capacity procurement, ensuring competitive pricing in comparison with the market, diving team workloads to maximize productivity and expertise in different transportation modes and regions, and further aligning AEL with carriers that align with our core values and strategies. This role is central to AEL's carrier strategy, focused on delivering operational excellence and fostering long-term partnerships across the network and marketplace.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Manage and lead the carrier sales team, ensuring that all freight is covered for on-time pick-up and delivery, while maintaining a high level of service to shipper customers.
  • Retain, refine, and develop skills and talent through existing teammates while recruiting and adding new team members as business dictates.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of strong carrier relationships, ensuring that Carrier Sales Executives (CSEs) are securing reliable capacity and providing exceptional service to shipper customers.
  • Help facilitate the identification and onboarding of new carriers that meet AEL's criteria, expanding the carrier network to enhance service capabilities and ensure reliable capacity.
  • Conduct value-added carrier visits to strengthen partnerships, assess performance, and identify opportunities for collaboration and improvement.
  • Drive efficiency improvements and assist in uncovering and creating automation solutions to increase productivity and streamline processes within the Capacity team.
  • Collaborate on the redesign and maintenance of the carrier portion of AEL's website, ensuring it is user-friendly, informative, and aligned with the organization's objectives.
  • Play a lead role in the creation and development of AEL's carrier portal to enhance communication, transparency, and accessibility for current and future carrier partners.
  • Create and execute a Carrier Sales strategy to further the culture of carrier customers and partnerships, entrenching strategic carriers into AEL's business and development.
  • Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with the largest and most strategic carriers to assess performance, discuss opportunities for improvement, and solidify long-term partnerships.
  • Ensure CSEs are purchasing capacity at or below market rates, consistently driving cost savings and improving margins for AEL.
  • Monitor and evaluate carrier performance, addressing any service issues promptly and ensuring that operational KPIs are met or exceeded.
  • Divide workload and responsibilities among the CSEs to maximize productivity and foster expertise in different transportations modes and regions of the country.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of shipments and alignment with customer expectations.
  • Ensure freight is entrusted with viable partners by mitigating fraud through utilizing tools to root out any bad actors or fraudulent activity.
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for CSEs, ensuring they have the knowledge, tools, and training necessary to excel in their roles.
  • Leverage market intelligence and industry trends to inform carrier strategy and drive continuous improvement in AEL's capacity management processes.
  • Track and report key performance metrics, including on-time performance, carrier spend, market rates, and profitability, providing regular updates to the executive team.
  • Lead initiatives to improve efficiency in capacity procurement, reduce carrier turnover, and increase profitability through strategic carrier partnerships.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience in logistics operations and carrier management, demonstrating strong logistics acumen.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in capacity management.
  • Proven ability to manage a team and drive operational excellence with experience overseeing carrier relationships and securing reliable freight capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation modes and regional market dynamics across North America.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain long-term relationships with carriers.
  • Ability to analyze market conditions, pricing trends, and operational performance to make data-driven decisions and improve profitability.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on team development, productivity, and achieving high service levels.
  • Experience conducting QBRs with carriers to assess performance and develop strategic partnerships.
  • Proficiency in using TMS and other logistics technology platforms to manage carrier performance, track capacity, and report on operational KPIs.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, adapting quickly to changing priorities and demands.
