Position Summary
The Compliance Accountant will work collaboratively and strategically with the company’s Business Units (BU) to ensure compliance with both internal (IA) and external audit standards. This individual will play a key role in understanding, communicating, and guiding company's BUs on proper audit procedures, while also implementing and monitoring corrective action plans. The Compliance Accountant will serve as a liaison between the Controllers, Finance departments, and the broader organization to ensure audit findings are addressed, risks are mitigated, and processes align with compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
Audit Support and Compliance
- Develop a deep understanding of the organization's business structure, processes, and controls.
- Serve as the primary resource to guide BU Finance teams on internal controls, including JSOX compliance and internal audit procedures.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments and evaluate internal controls to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with Company’s Internal Audit (IA) and external auditors to address identified deficiencies, develop action plans, and ensure timely remediation.
- Facilitate quarterly reviews, control environment assessments, and support financial statement audits for BU Finance teams.
Process Coordination and Improvement
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key process owners, Controllers, and Finance department stakeholders.
- Coordinate and lead meetings with Company’s Finance teams to create, revise, and document business and system processes.
- Identify process inefficiencies and recommend actionable improvements to enhance compliance, productivity, and accuracy.
Documentation and Reporting
- Clearly document audit findings, risk assessments, and compliance gaps, ensuring high-quality work products.
- Draft and present audit reports that summarize findings, risks, and recommendations for improvements.
- Communicate test results, remediation efforts, and process improvements effectively to supervisors and management.
Other Duties
- Monitor the progress of remediation efforts and provide support as needed to ensure adherence to action plans.
- Educate BU teams on best practices for compliance and risk management to foster a proactive control environment.
Qualifications
Education and Certifications
- Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
- Preferred: CPA, CIA, CFE, CCSA, CRMA, or CMA certification.
Experience
- 3–5 years of auditing or risk advisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing and/or services environment.
- Big Four public accounting experience is highly preferred.
Technical Knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of financial statement audits, internal and operational audits, SSAE 16 engagements, and ERP security and control reviews.
- Strong familiarity with JSOX (or US SOX) processes, control testing, and external audit procedures.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle and Great Plains ERP systems (knowledge of additional ERP systems is a plus).
Skills
- Exceptional analytical skills with a focus on identifying and mitigating risks.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Visio.
- Ability to think both strategically and tactically, with a strong focus on process improvement.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to clearly articulate audit objectives, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders across all levels.
