Senior Data Governance Specialist

Role Summary:
The Information Governance group within CLIENT’s Office of Technology has a need for a Senior Data Governance Specialist to assist the Assistant Director – Information Governance with the continuing operation of the information governance program, with a specific focus on setting up a Data Governance Council Review Board, comprised of business and technical data stakeholders from across the CLIENT, and defining and implementing additional related data management standards and procedures for data accountability, quality, sensitivity, usage and sharing across the enterprise. To help the CLIENT address the identified need, the resource will provide the responsibilities and qualifications listed below.
Responsibilities:
• Set up and drive the operation of the cross-divisional enterprise data governance council and support related data owner/steward/custodian activities and working group projects that are spawned from council decisions.
• Support the continued development of the CLIENT’s data governance practices and procedures and contribute to their expanded rollout, thereby increasing the data maturity of the organization through guidance, communication, and hands- on support. This includes establishment of enterprise data standards, guidelines, practices and processes related to Data Accountability, Metadata Management, Data Quality, and Information Sharing and Usage.
• Promote comprehensive education in information governance and management – design and support delivery of engaging training materials to the data governance council and beyond and ensure effective dissemination to drive program awareness and data catalog adoption to improve data literacy and promote change across the organization.
• Provide input and guidance into expanding the production capability for the Enterprise Data Catalog, including the support for metadata curation activities.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with data owners, stewards, custodians, and compliance teams to ensure that governance policies and standards are consistently applied across all data sources and systems.
• Assist with development of business glossaries and taxonomies, and conduct curation of associated metadata.
Experience/Technical Expertise Required:
• 10 years of experience in setting up or running a data governance program and related data council functions.
• 12 years' work experience with data/information lifecycle management and governance, metadata management, information classification, data quality, data usage, data analysis, records management, privacy and information security.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with IT teams and key stakeholders, utilizing analytical skills in understanding data flows, dissecting problems, and delivering clear recommendations and guidance.
• Strong understanding of information management concepts.
• Familiarity with conceptual, logical and physical data modeling and data dictionaries and semantics, syntax and taxonomies.
• Experience with supporting data governance and data quality initiatives, including developing and implementing data standards, practices and procedures that improved data integrity.
• Familiarity with data architecture, storage, archiving, lineage and impact analysis.
• Familiarity with data/information capability and risk frameworks (e.g., DMBOK).
• Experience curating metadata within data cataloging tools (Informatica, Purview, Collibra, Alation, or similar) and promoting adoption with business and technology stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of ETL processes that include data integration, data quality and data profiling.
• Working knowledge of report development and data pipelines in Microsoft Power BI or similar tools.
• Working knowledge of Azure Databricks and the Unity Catalog within.
• Knowledge of Auditing Standards and SEC Filings a plus.
• Exposure to the Accounting and Regulatory Industry a plus.
• Knowledge of Agile Development and project management practices.
• Ability to quickly and proficiently understand and absorb new information.
• Ability to quickly gain traction and work independently with minimal direction in a new domain and organization, and lead information governance related projects.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with the CLIENT’s IT teams and key stakeholders, utilizing analytical skills in understanding data flows, dissecting problems, and delivering clear recommendations and guidance.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex data environments, identify governance gaps, and design effective solutions using CDGC together with other tools.
Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders, conduct training sessions, and document governance processes.
Project Management: Experience managing data governance projects and initiatives, with an ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
