The Utility Operator has the responsibility for filling a variety of positions as needed. Including running the RO/UF/Nano/Pasteurizer’s, Evaporator and Dryer department in an efficient and productive manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate with all departmental operators to efficiently manage silo space and production schedules. Any issues should be reported to a shift lead/supervisor/manager in a timely manner.
- Pull liquid samples and use analysis for adjusting operation parameters.
- Monitor, plan and track all incoming product for upcoming production runs.
- Check all silo temperatures and solids; document this information on the RO / UF Daily production report.
- Trace product lines and track the locations of all products being transferred.
- Maintain the filtration equipment assuring that all product specifications meet specified parameters.
- Maintain proper documentation for production Runs and CIP’s.
- Monitor the filtration equipment and silo areas for leaking gaskets, airlines, pump seals and any other operation deficiencies and report immediately to maintenance/shift lead/supervisor/manager.
- Must operate all CIP3, CIP4 systems within the plant.
- Maintain clean silos, lines and documentation.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and assist maintenance in the repair of equipment as required.
- Ability to perform all positions within the department.
- Follow all established Good Manufacturing Practices
- Review previous shift paperwork, maintain proper documentation of (bag weights, run numbers, production and CIP logs, etc) and follow the set production schedules closely.
- Monitor to ensure all incoming products are measured so that finished product meets customer specifications and quantities.
- Check that the bagger has taken all necessary samples of products.
- Make sure that the bagger has all of the necessities (bags, pallets, skid sheets, etc.) that are needed for them to complete their job sufficiently.
- Assist with bagging during the bagger’s break periods and help troubleshoot bagging issues.
- Train baggers to ensure GMP compliance
- Assure all pallets/bags of product, necessary for production, are taken out of the bag room at the end of each lot and have accurate placards placed on them.
- Check all dryer / evaporator settings / CIP / status, to assure all products are within specifications.
- Periodically check the lecithin spray patterns of the nozzles being used.
- Check fluid bed and sifter for chunks, wetness and fullness, often, throughout the shift. Alert shift lead/supervisor/manager of any potential complications / deviations from specifications.
- Check HPP after CIPs for any hard chunks that might be present and remove them.
- Able to trace product lines and track the locations of all products being transferred.
- Monitor moisture level of powder and adjust dryer accordingly.
- Maintain a clean and organized area.
- Maintain daily sanitation schedule.
Position Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (dairy/wet processing preferred)
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to perform mathematical equations involving packaging materials required, weight calculations, percent inclusion, percent protein/fat, blend ratios, drug reconciliation, product flow rate, and conversion of liquids to solids.
- Ability to repeatedly lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk continually during shift.
- Possess problem-solving skills as related to operation, equipment maintenance, quality and process flow.
- Ability to climb ladders and several flights of stairs frequently during a shift.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Attendance in good standing.
- Ability to be able to learn a variety of positions quickly.
