What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Planner/Scheduler position at Acucote?
Function Summary:
- Manage the production life cycle by scheduling coating production (yearly process according to the budget, monthly review according to customer orders and expected inventory levels, weekly updates), monitoring daily production efficiencies, closing production orders, reporting variances, and analyzing associated KPIs.
- Collaborate with different teams, including but not limited to; Production, Maintenance, Customer Service, Quality, IT, and Sales for the execution of daily coating activities to support a fast-paced, international environment.
- Main interfaces are Raw Material planning in Supply Chain and Order Fulfillment in Operations, to understand the availability of raw materials for production use and the production department to act on analysis or corrective actions associated with compiled data to ensure timely delivery of customer orders, and replenishment of inventory levels according to company’s policy
- Represent FSA in a professional manner while interacting with customers, vendors, employees, and fellow managers, as needed (role is not primarily customer facing)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain the master coating schedule (yearly, monthly), and short-range plans for plant production (for all coaters only).
o Working from customer orders, enter, update, and maintain manufacturing orders in the X-tern Fourth Shift system.
o Work with individual production department managers to establish the sequence that the jobs will be run in the departments.
o Manage Stock WIP inventories at Graham to ensure on time deliveries and targeted inventory levels.
- Coordinate with the Procurement and Supply Chain to ensure that sufficient materials are on hand to meet the short-range schedule
- Comprehensive data analysis and reporting to drive schedulikng decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Plan the siliconized liner needs for the organization and enter silicone coating orders
- Determine slit-down needs and coordinate with Order Fulfillment to create orders
- Coordinate deliveries from external warehouse daily.
- Adjust, as necessary, production schedules, including recommending overtime, to meet the delivery dates requested by customers. Use forecasting techniques to make recommendations.
- Identifying and analyzing the possible production constraints and potential capacity improvement to meet the medium-long term demand.
- Manage capacity and coordinate with Order Fulfillment to ensure promise dates to customers are met. Coordinate activities throughout the organization
- Interacting with Sales and Customer Service for the order confirmation with a customer centric approach. Participate in the daily production meeting attended by the Production Department managers.
- Monitoring and implementing performance KPIs in line with company standards.
- Work with the operations team to maximize throughput and efficiency through the slitter operation.
- Work with customer service, and GM, to manipulate schedule based on customer prioritization and production needs.
- Notify Sales, Customer Support, Buyers, and Company Management of delays in production, this may include but is not limited to, equipment failures, receiving delays on stocked products, scheduled vs. actual variances, etc.
- Troubleshoot various production errors by running variance reports.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Supply Chain Director
- Optimize and define production establishing where products are produced (which coater)
- Optimize production schedule to minimize changeovers and stops to maximize plant output
- Revise, together with Marketing, the Product Offer Guide to define MTS/MTO products, MoQ according to production constraints and productivity maximization
- Partner with Procurement and R&D to manage special development projects (e.g. Design To Value, new product development) to make sure deadlines are maintained while preserving OTIF and OTD KPIs
- Optimize production campaigns and minimize cost savings with Procurement by means of continuous improvement of adhesive technology in use
- Ensure BOMs (Bill of Materials) are always up to date in the ERP, including complete SKU lifecycle, management of principal Raw Material alternatives, accuracy of quantities, as per R&D instructions. Process is proactively managed by this role, involving periodically all parties involved (R&D, Production, Procurement, Supply Chain)
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Provide support for inventory management process for the production center, which includes monitoring production bins for accurate quantities and researching discrepancies. Support the management Warehouse inventory and work with the Procurement team to ensure material is produced in accordance with demand.
- Support Operations related projects to ensure success by following through on documentation, training, and implementation. Current initiatives include but are not limited to, In-house KPIs, training documentation, safety initiatives. and process improvements.
- Provide support for physical inventories, onsite and at outside vendors.
- Participate in department meetings, purchasing meetings, and daily production meetings as an active contributor.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED desired, some college or continuing education strongly preferred.
- Previous production experience desired.
- Purchasing and inventory management functions at a companywide level within a nationwide distribution environment preferred
- Strong computer skills required, especially Excel. Role is highly analytical and data driven, so ability to perform analysis with large amount of data and make sense of those information is a must for the role
- Must possess a strong Customer Service focus both to internal and external customers.
- Ability work in a manner consistent with a strong team-oriented environment, characterized by commonly held goals and objectives.
- Requires specific hands-on knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain processes with exposure to all areas of the organization.
- Paper or Printing industry experience is a plus
- Must be able to work independently and be able to generate ideas for and successfully execute process improvements.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and/or the ability to learn complex computer systems quickly.
- Works well under pressure, can multi-task and prioritize successfully in a very fast paced working environment.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to achieve goals by working effectively with the other functional teams within the company.
- Ability to develop alternative solutions and support recommendations with fact-based analysis.
- Willingness to take initiative and work "hands on", to solve problems / capture opportunities.
