Job Summary

The Firefighter is responsible for fire suppression, hazardous materials response, specialized rescue operations, and emergency response at the airport Balad Air Base. Be proficient in handling various emergencies including aircraft fires and fuel spills, work closely with airport management and other emergency response teams to efficiently handle and mitigate incidents in an airfield environment.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Responds to aircraft incidents and emergencies, structural alarms and emergencies, grass or brushfires that may threaten the loss of life or government property, automotive vehicle fires or accidents, and petroleum, oil, and lubricant fires or spills limited to hazardous materials operational level response.
• Drives and inspects fire department vehicles; operates firefighting equipment and tools.
• Exercises judgment, and initiative; receives and executes direction from Crew Chief or another senior member.
• Completes daily work assignments and work well as a crew member.
• Provide and take part in training in techniques, use of equipment and other related matters.
• Maintain firefighting vehicles and equipment per manufacturer’s recommendation.
• Maintain living quarters and the fire station's overall appearance.
• Respond to notifications of a recall and report to the Emergency Communication Center or other designated location for assignment.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.
  
  

Qualifications

• IFSAC or ProBoard certification to include Firefighter I/II, Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator ARFF, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply, Hazardous Material Operations, and Telecommunicator I/II.
• Have interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships.
• A minimum of four years of relevant experience is desired.
• Be proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Communicates effectively in writing, on the telephone, and in person.
• Maintain the level of physical fitness needed to carry out all of the duties of a firefighter.
• Have a valid home-of-record driver’s license.
  
  

Physical Requirements And Work Conditions

• Physical requirements may include lifting up to 35 lbs., team lifting up to 50 lbs. or more, climbing, extended standing, stretching, or bending.
• Ability to sit and concentrate for extended periods but also have the mobility to respond immediately to emergency incidents.
• Willing to be flexible regarding working hours and respond quickly to time sensitive or urgent events.
• Ability to live and work in harsh climatic and austere living conditions to include the potential for moderate to extreme physical danger.
