What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Veterinary Technician position at AcuteVet Animal Urgent Care?
Acute Vet is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Overnight Veterinary Technician with a passion for intensive and critical care to join our fast-paced Urgent Care and ICU team. In this role, you will be the eyes and ears of our patients throughout the night, providing constant monitoring, skilled nursing, and life-saving interventions. You’ll work with our veterinarians to stabilize, treat, and closely monitor a wide range of critical patients during overnight hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on care to ICU and urgent care patients, including those requiring oxygen therapy, IV fluid therapy, constant rate infusions, and advanced monitoring.
- Monitor and interpret patient vitals (heart rate, respiratory rate, SpO₂, temperature, blood pressure) and report abnormalities promptly.
- Administer and monitor complex treatment protocols including injectable medications, blood products, and continuous infusions.
- Triage emergencies upon arrival and assist with stabilization, including CPR if needed (RECOVER training a plus).
- Maintain detailed and timely medical records and treatment logs for ICU patients.
- Participate in ICU patient rounds and collaborate with day-shift teams to ensure seamless continuity of care.
- Ensure a calm, clean, and well-prepared ICU/treatment space, even under pressure.
- Offer emotional support and clear communication to pet owners during difficult or emergent situations.
Requirements:
- Preferred: Minimum 2 years experience in emergency/critical care
- Veterinary Technician license (LVT, CVT, RVT) or equivalent hands-on ICU/emergency experience.
- Proficiency in IV catheterization, blood draws, lab work, anesthesia monitoring, and critical patient nursing.
- Strong understanding of ICU protocols, pharmacology, and emergency triage.
- Comfortable handling high-stress situations and prioritizing care for multiple critical patients.
- Commitment to ongoing learning, collaboration, and patient advocacy.
Schedule & Environment:
- Overnight shift (e.g. 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
