Financial Assistant

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain good relations with the public, including answering phones, providing assistance and referring callers/visitors to appropriate staff or departments.
2. Review all checks and invoices for accuracy.
3. Assist with reconciling monthly bank statements and other financial accounts.
4. Attend Commission meetings as needed.
5. Assist the City Treasurer with the accumulation of information and preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
6. Assist with payroll, payroll taxes and reporting.
7. Assist the City Treasurer in preparation for the annual audit of the City’s financial statements and other financial audits performed by federal, state, local or other government entities.
8. Prepare various financial reports when requested by the City Treasurer or Mayor.
9. Assist with grant application and monitoring processes, including the accumulation and preparation of financial information as required,
10. Assist with the accumulation and preparation of financial data required for reports submitted to federal, state, local or other governmental entities.
11. Perform other duties as deemed necessary or assigned by the City Treasurer or Mayor
12. May be required to work overtime, alternate hours, weekends, and attend evening meetings.
13. This is an on-site position; remote work may be permitted on an exception basis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles used by Florida State and local governments preferred.
2. Knowledge and experience of accounting computer application systems, including but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, QuickBooks, and payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable applications.
3. Ability to plan and coordinate with others to complete work tasks and assignments, coordinate multiple deadlines and tasks simultaneously.
4. Ability to prioritize workload and complete tasks in a timely manner.
5. Ability to respond and communicate with the general public in a timely manner.
6. Ability to work independently.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. An Associates Degree in Accounting or higher is preferred.
2. Three (3) or more years’ experience performing financial and accounting functions in an office setting.
3. Experience with accounting software and computer information program systems and proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, QuickBooks, and related accounting and financial applications
4. Excellent verbal/written communications skills.
