Parks Equipment Operator I - Tree Crew

PAY RANGE DOE: $17.20 - $27.52/HR.
Position Summary:
Semi-skilled and manual work in maintaining Citywide trees. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Semi-skilled labor to support tree trimming tasks involving the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Participates in tree trimming and debris removal; construction and maintenance of park areas as instructed.
- Performs cleaning and routine first level maintenance of equipment.
- Makes daily written and oral reports.
- For declared disasters, position is considered “essential’; works with City crews during preparation and recovery operations (road clearing, debris removal from rights of way and city properties, inspection of facilities, etc.).
- Performs other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques, practices, and principles.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment to do related work.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Skill in the operation and preventative maintenance of equipment and related tools.
- Ability to learn tennis court maintenance and adapt to weather-related changes.
- Positive customer service skills.
- Ability to work well with others or work independently, task oriented.
- Self-starter, shows initiative, able to follow instructions.
- Flexible schedule to allow weekend and evening work as needed.
Education and Experience:
- High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma.
- Grounds maintenance and tree experience preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License and be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider.
