UTILITIES MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST I - SEWER

PAY RATE: $17.20/HR
Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance specialist III, the Maintenance Specialist I is responsible for assisting the crew leader with the installation of sewer service laterals, sewer clean-outs, sewer main lines, manholes, brick and precast. Assists in repairing of sewer services, sewer main lines and associated appendages.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all the activities described below.
- Assists Maintenance III in the maintenance and repairs to collection system.
- Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of wastewater mains, service connections, manholes and appurtenances (using a shovel for excavation is large portion of this job in this position).
- Loads and unloads trucks daily.
- The ability to work in a responsible manner when dealing with customers and the public. Must have a professional appearance and mannerism.
- Cleans and services line crew equipment daily.
- Transport’s vehicles and equipment as directed.
- Must be in good physical condition working outside in the elements performing extensive shoveling, lifting, and mechanical repairs.
- Must be able to pour and finish concrete.
- Must have a good safety record. Ability to work in or around traffic, working around underground utilities, water lines, electric, gas, phone/fiber optics, cable TV, Stormwater, sewer lines, etc.
- Must be dedicated to providing support to other employees in a team atmosphere. Must be willing to work in different areas of the department or city as required.
- All employees will be cross trained in water, wastewater, and/or reclaimed water for equivalent positions. The employee may be directed to change positions at any time of employment without notice on a permanent or temporary basis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work with various hand and power tools.
- Good customer skills when dealing with people.
- A good safety track record.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to take independent action without constant supervision.
- Ability to make logical decisions based on training and experience.
- Ability to work in or around wastewater and related jobs.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces and underground.
Education and Experience:
- Possession of a High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Possession of a Florida Driver’s License and required to upgrade to a class B CDL with Tanker and Air Brake endorsement within 2 years.
- Additional training is required after employment including but not limited to:
- Confined space entry within (1) one year.
Requirements:
- Must qualify and be ready for “Call-Duty” within two years.
