POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs technical accounting tasks to maintain County financial accounts and ledgers; performs related duties as required.
- Reviews court orders related to misdemeanor probation and/or restitution;
- Enters misdemeanor probation and/or restitution orders into court records;
- Applies payments and make adjustments to court records;
- Conducts research to resolve problems relating to misdemeanor probation/and or restitution cases;
- Communicates directly with Court partners to ensure accurate court records are maintained.
- Posts to appropriate registers and balances revenue items and cash receipts;
- Audits cash receipts for departmental cash box;
- Prepares month end reporting for restitution;
- Provides information to clients, victims and departments regarding the status of billings and payments;
- Processes payments in a timely manner;
- Maintains complete set of bookkeeping records and files to document data and to provide financial statuses;
- Identifies and resolves problems for dissatisfied parties or refers to appropriate staff;
- Makes the entries required to bring accounts into balance;
- Files correspondence and maintains orderly storage and retention of bills
- Calculates payments and amounts due;
- Receives funds, counts collections, and
writesprocesses receipts; - Deposits funds in the bank;
- Determines amounts of refunds due under a variety of programs and processes the refund due;
- Audits and investigates non-redeemed issued checks.;
- Furnishes information to other entities on matters relating to accounts maintained.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- May maintain checking account balances and ensure cash balances to daily payments;
- Performs related duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- A minimum of three years of previous accounting experience;
- Completion of college level course work in Accounting preferred;
- Knowledge of double entry bookkeeping systems and procedures preferred;
- Knowledge of modern office equipment, practices and procedures;
- Knowledge of clerical methods used in keeping fiscal accounts and records;
- Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation;
- Knowledge of business arithmetic;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; Skill in the operation of a personal computer and 10 key calculators;
- Ability to understand legal terminology;
- Ability to analyze and resolve accounting problems;
- Ability to handle, count, and balance large amounts of money;
- Ability to follow complex verbal and written directions;
- Ability to plan for and meet deadlines;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Ability to use appropriate telephone etiquette;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in the performance of duties;
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationship with other employees.
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
- May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.;
- Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
