Tutor - Acad. Youth Prog.

Basic Function: Under the supervision of the Program Director, delivers academic tutoring to students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

• Reviews material provided by school administrator and is able to present concepts that increases and improve students' skill set.

Reading Specialist. Know principles being taught.

• Attend joint training, planning and preparation sessions under direct
  supervision of Reading Specialist.

Facilitate and assist with planning enrichment activity and workshop.

• Organize tutorial materials/supplies before each tutorial session.
• Maintain accurate student information, i.e. attendance, test scores, progress
  reports, phone numbers and addresses.
• Document student problems/concerns and communicate the program director and/or program coordinator immediately.
• Keep a log/journal of tutoring activities and experiences as a self-evaluation.
• Learn the names of students right away.
• Conduct tutoring sessions with both individuals and small groups under the supervision of the Program Director.
• Provide personal support to enable students to overcome obstacles to success.

Requirements:

• Successful completion of at least three years of undergraduate study.
• Ability to act as a role model and a mentor.
• Some previous work experience or coursework with tutoring and
  mentoring to elementary school-aged students.
• Ability to work part-time, afternoon to evening hours.

Mental/Physical Demands: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as instructional manuals, operating instructions, books, catalogues and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups or employees of organizations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed in an office or classroom environment.
