Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Automotive Technician to join our team and specialize in the conversion of wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs). The ideal candidate will be responsible for modifying, installing, and assembling adaptive mobility equipment, including ramps, lifts, securement systems, and other accessibility features. This role requires mechanical expertise, electrical troubleshooting skills, and a strong commitment to quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Modifications & Conversions:
- Install wheelchair ramps, lifts, securement systems, hand controls, and other mobility equipment.
- Modify vehicle interiors for accessibility, including flooring, seating, and restraint systems.
- Ensure compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and industry safety regulations.
- Electrical & Mechanical Installations:
- Wire and integrate electrical components such as interlocks, lighting, backup alarms, and power controls.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems related to conversions.
- Test and verify the functionality of all installed equipment.
- Quality Control & Safety Compliance:
- Perform post-installation inspections to ensure all work meets safety and performance standards.
- Conduct test drives and system checks before vehicle delivery.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and quality control measures.
- Customer Support & Documentation:
- Provide technical guidance on equipment operation and maintenance.
- Work with sales and service teams to address customer needs.
- Maintain detailed records of installations, modifications, and service history.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience:
- 2 years of automotive technician, mechanical, or electrical experience (preferably in mobility vehicle conversions or upfitting).
- Experience with hydraulics, wiring, fabrication, or welding is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of automotive electrical systems, mechanical modifications, and accessibility equipment installation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Welding, fabrication, and metalworking experience (preferred).
- Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification.
- Manufacturer-specific training (BraunAbility, VMI, Ricon, etc.).
- DOT or ADA compliance training.
- Other Requirements:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work with tools, power equipment, and hydraulic systems.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
