Description
- The surgical technologist performs functions in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phase of the patient’s surgical experience. Collectively these phases are called the perioperative surgical experience. The “Surgical Technologist” is an integral part of the team and functions inside as well as outside of the sterile field. The surgical technologist assists in monitoring and managing the room environment to ensure that it is safe for the patient and staff. The goal is to promote a positive patient outcome. Duties outside of the sterile field are delegated by the circulating nurse and may vary. Responsibilities within the sterile field are dependent on the technician’s role of first or second scrub and whether or not the surgeon has an assistant. The scrub tech provides emotional and psychological support to the patient. The surgical technologist performs under the supervision of the surgeon and circulator. The focus of the first scrub will be procedure oriented while the focus of the second scrub will be assisting the O.R. team in the preparation of the surgical procedure, anticipating supplies, equipment, and patient transfer until the O.R. team is ready for the intraoperative phase and/or the “first scrub” needs assistance.
- Required to live close to Stilwell so can rotate call with other surgical techs.
Qualifications
Current certification or OJT (on job training) to practice as surgical scrub tech in the state of Oklahoma. Maintains current CPR, ACLS, PALS and other certifications as required for position.
