ACET is seeking a Composite and Fiberglass Repair Technician in our Havelock, NC location.
Job Summary:
ACET is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Composite and Fiberglass Repair Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in repairing, maintaining, and fabricating composite and fiberglass components and coverings for aerospace applications. This is a part time position. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the structural integrity and performance of aircraft systems while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.
Requirements: Part-time, Day Shift
Key Responsibilities:
1. Inspection and Assessment
- Conduct visual and non-destructive inspections (NDI) to assess damage or wear on composite and fiberglass components.
- Evaluate damage reports and determine the extent of repairs needed.
- Use tools like ultrasonic testers, x-rays, or thermographic equipment for detailed assessments.
2. Repair and Maintenance
- Repair or replace damaged composite materials, including fiberglass, carbon fiber, and other components.
- Sand, grind, and shape composite materials to prepare surfaces for repair.
- Apply resins, adhesives, or sealants to restore structural integrity.
- Use vacuum bagging and curing techniques for composite repairs.
- Ensure repairs meet company specifications and standards.
3. Fabrication
- Fabricate or modify composite parts as needed, following technical drawings, blueprints, or specifications.
- Use hand tools and automated equipment to cut, mold, and assemble components.
4. Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain detailed records of repairs and inspections in accordance with military regulations.
- Adhere to safety protocols and technical orders during all repair processes.
- Ensure compliance with FAA and Department of Defense (DoD) standards.
5. Collaboration
- Work closely with engineers, maintenance crews, and quality assurance teams to ensure proper repair solutions.
- Provide input on improving repair processes and materials.
6. Training and Knowledge Updates
- Stay updated on advancements in composite materials and repair techniques.
- Train other personnel on best practices for composite repair.
7. Safety and Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain and calibrate tools and equipment used in composite repair.
- Follow strict safety guidelines when working with chemicals, resins, and high-temperature curing processes.
These responsibilities ensure the structural integrity and safety of aircraft, which is critical for operational readiness and mission success.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required, technical certification or associate degree in composites or related field preferred.
- Minimum [3] three year of experience in composite and fiberglass repair, preferably in aerospace or aviation industries.
- Strong knowledge of composite materials, repair methods, and manufacturing techniques.
- Familiarity with FAA regulations and industry standards related to composite repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools used in composite repair processes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Additional Skills and Attributes:
- Strong understanding of aerodynamics and structural mechanics.
- Knowledge of composite material properties and behavior under stress.
- Attention to detail and precision in repairs.
- Ability to work under time constraints in a high-pressure environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and manipulate 50lbs independently when needed.
- Position involves long periods of standing, bending, kneeling, squatting.
- Position my require use / exposure to oils, hydraulic fluids and cleaning solvents Resins and Adhesives.
- Will Require Respiratory Physicals and Fit Checks.
