Position Overview:
Adams Contracting, LLC, located in Lexington, KY, is seeking a motivated and experienced Project Manager specializing in heavy and highway construction. The Project Manager will oversee all phases of construction, from pre-construction planning to project completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. This role requires managing client relationships, subcontractors, and internal teams while focusing on quality, safety, and project execution. Adams Contracting performs work across the Southeast United States, working with DOTs, Corps of Engineers, Federal Highway Administration, USDA Forestry Service, and various municipalities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Scheduling:
- Develop and manage project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
- Ensure timely delivery of all project phases: pre-construction, procurement, and execution.
- Coordinate submittals, Purchase Orders, Subcontracts, and other deliverables to avoid delays.
- Budget & Cost Management:
- Prepare and maintain accurate project budgets and forecasts.
- Track and manage expenditures, change orders, material costs, and labor allocations.
- Ensure cost-effectiveness and profitability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Team Leadership & Coordination:
- Lead and direct on-site project teams, including engineers, foremen, and subcontractors.
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative team environment.
- Client & Stakeholder Coordination:
- Liaise with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders to align project goals.
- Maintain clear communication and ensure client expectations are met or exceeded.
- Contract & Documentation Management:
- Review and manage contracts, subcontracts, and purchase agreements.
- Ensure timely submission and processing of all construction documentation (RFIs, RFQs, change orders, etc.).
- Monitor compliance with all project specifications and contractual obligations.
- Safety & Quality Control:
- Implement and enforce site safety protocols in line with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure adherence to design, engineering specifications, and quality standards.
- Conduct regular audits and safety inspections to minimize risk.
- Problem Solving & Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate risks through proactive planning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the project.
- Adapt plans to address unforeseen delays or changes.
- Estimating Support:
- Assist in estimating and reviewing cost information to support the bidding process.
- Collaborate with estimating teams for accurate project proposals.
- Equipment Management:
- Coordinate equipment usage, rentals, and maintenance with the Operations Manager.
- Ensure all equipment is available and functional as needed.

- Cost-Effective Estimating:
- Contribute to competitive bids and successful project acquisition through collaboration with estimating teams.
- Resource Management:
- Ensure proper equipment allocation and prevent project delays related to equipment availability.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5 years of experience in managing heavy/highway construction projects.
- Proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects on time and within budget.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, equipment, and materials used in heavy/highway projects.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations relevant to highway construction.
- Experience with bridges, highways, underground utilities, flat concrete, structural concrete, or large-scale earthworks.
- Expertise in developing and monitoring construction schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements and specifications.
- Experience with COE (Corps of Engineers) requirements and specifications.
