What Success Looks Like In This Job
To perform a variety of duties involved in assisting in the preparation and the administration of the county budget including reviewing expenditures, monitoring budget levels and adjusting budgets; to assist in the development and implementation of budget policies and procedures; and to provide responsible budget related assistance.
Examples of Duties for Success
- Monitor the budget including reviewing and approving expenditures, adjusting budgets and monitoring budget levels; ensure that budgets comply with policies and procedures.
- Assist in the preparation and publication of various documents to include: interim budget variance/forecast documents, budget preparation manual, preliminary budget documents, the annual budget document and other reports and publications.
- Conduct a variety of special budget related projects for various internal and external spending agencies; collect, organize and analyze data; prepare and present reports.
- Assist in the long-range development of the capital improvement plan.
- Coordinate budget activities with spending agencies; solve budget problems and interpretation of policies and procedures; monitor budget levels and maintain budget controls.
- Prepare and/or present reports and special analysis of information ad hoc, quarterly and annually to spending agencies and management.
- Reconcile, monitor and maintain the annual budget.
- Coordinate with Accounting to update the County's chart of accounts and as needed.
- Responsible for monitoring position control by tracking, creating and updating authorized positions as needed
- Assist with grant accounting activities related to the budget.
- Assist in the development of revenue, expenditure and fund balance forecasts for budget development and long-range planning and process spending 68 082.87agency budget submittals.
- Train county staff, answer questions and provide information regarding budget policies and procedures.
- Perform various account reconciliations.
- Compile data for the annual cost allocation plan.
- Develop spreadsheets and databases that further automate the budget process.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success
- Basic principles, methods and practices of budgeting and finance.
- Principles and practices of mathematics, statistics and financial analysis.
- Methods and techniques used in financial research and revenue forecasting.
- Business writing and basic report preparation.
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Computer skills: utilize computer applications such as spreadsheet and word processing programs.
- Compile, analyze, interpret and report research findings.
- Learn, interpret and apply pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
- Learn Colorado revised statutes uniform classification of accounts.
- Learn Colorado local government budget laws and revised statutes.
- Learn principles and practices of fund accounting and governmental budgeting.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
More Qualifications for Success
A combination of education and equivalent work experience may also be considered: Relevant professional experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
Experience:
- One (1) year of professional Finance, Budgeting, or Accounting experience.
- Public sector/local government experience a plus but not required where other related experience and education exist.
Education and Training: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management, or a related field is required.
License or Certificate: None.
Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
Other: Ability to work in a standard office environment.
Salary : $68,083 - $98,720
