HOURS: 40 hours per week (2nd Shift, or Swing Shift)
The Detention Officer position works in tandem with a team of Detention Officers to serve a resident population of up to 30 residents and is supported by a Supervisor, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent. The objective of this position is to provide a safe, secure, structured environment for delinquent youth, staff, and provide reports to the Judiciary.
We are looking for someone who can establish working relationships with a wide array of people and work under stressful circumstances. A good candidate would have good problem solving, organizational, oral, written and computer skills, while also possessing the qualities of integrity, professionalism, dependability, confidentiality, flexibility, and a willingness to learn new skills. They would exhibit the ability and drive to thrive in a team environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Be a citizen of the United States. Be a resident of the State of Illinois within 90 days of the date of appointment. Availability to work a variable schedule. Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.
This role requires work performed in and around a juvenile detention facility; subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, physically restraining detainees, and lifting of objects up to or exceeding 50 pounds.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Provide security, care, and direct supervision of residents.
- Facilitate and deliver programming designed to assist residents toward positive behavior change. This includes strategies for providing positive reinforcement, issuing consequences for behavioral infractions, and teaching social-emotional skills through the facilitation of group discussions.
- Transportation of residents to and from various appointments and placement facilities.
- Respond appropriately and professionally to emergencies using appropriate continuum of force.
- Assist in receiving incoming residents.
- Establish a positive and professional working relationship with internal and external stakeholders, including supervisors, co-workers, outside law enforcement agencies, lawyers, transport personnel, county, state and federal personnel and agencies, and community members.
- Complete tasks and directives as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and/or Shift Supervisor.
