General Purpose:
The main purpose of the Deli Salad Chef is to take all special salad orders and prepare all deli salads.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Reports To: Deli Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor
Job Description:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Ensure that customers receive the best customer service by providing friendly, polite, and knowledgeable service
- Greet customers personally and thank them appreciatively for shopping at Adams
- Prepare daily deli salads, ensuring that the product used is fresh and that the presentation meets Adams’ standards
- Create recipes for deli salads
- Minimize waste by working with other departments to utilize overstocked or excess product in the daily salads
- Make sure that all product needed for making salads is on hand; order or transfer product, or request product from the Deli Manager when necessary
- Work on the deli floor when necessary, and safely slice meats and cheeses to customer’s specifications
- Be aware of quantity in the case and make enough to ensure that salads are plentiful
- When necessary, take responsibility for refilling the salad case according to freshness guidelines
- Take catering order in person or by phone and assist customers with questions
- Receive deliveries; check delivery ticket against what was ordered and product received
- If assigned, create and set up salad case
- Be aware of incoming text orders and ensure all orders are sliced within 20 minutes
- Be aware of sale items and pricing
- Maintain full knowledge of Deli product line and pricing
- Rotate products to keep older product in front and stock cases, making sure each package is correctly labeled and there are no empty spaces
- Keep cases stocked with daily food items
- Check the fresh slice case and pull product that is out of date/ time
- Be the final line for quality control: look for packaging issues, sell-by dates and times, and be vigilant about quality and presentation of all products put into the case
- If assigned, cut meat and cheese for fresh slice program
- If assigned, make pack out and artisan sandwiches
- Clean deli slicers, dishes, and all other department equipment
- Keep all areas of the department clean and organized, including sales floor, counters, cases, coolers, preparation and production areas
- When a customer needs assistance, give the customer priority over task at hand
Physical Requirements:
- Consistently lift and move 25 pounds
- Stand for the duration of the shift
- Be Food Safety Certified
- Use hands, wrists fingers and arms for duration of shift
- Climb up and down a stepstool, stepladder, and ladder
- Safely operate deli slicers and other equipment necessary to run the department
- Use the compactor and cardboard crusher for disposing of garbage and recycling

- Communicate clearly with customers and co-workers

- Must be able to work scheduled shift

- Be knowledgeable about Adams product – recommend ideas to customers by exploring customer preferences and advocating Adams product
