General Purpose:
The main purpose of the Grocery Assistant Manager is to politely and sincerely assist customers as well as supervise and manage department employees to maintain a profitable department by following the grocery manager’s policy for pricing, ordering, merchandising, inventory control, shrink control, and payroll goals.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Job Description:
- Ensure that each customer receives outstanding customer service by greeting customers, maintaining outstanding standards, and developing solid product knowledge
- Assist department manager in achieving profit margins, payroll goals and following company policy
- Delegate work to improve and maintain smooth & efficient department operation
- Report any discrepancies and/or problems to grocery manager
- Check all products arriving for quality
- Check invoices for the department for accuracy in manager’s absence and call in all shorts/ mispick credits
- Write transfers on products shipped to other Adams stores
- Be aware of safety procedures and maintain an employee and customer-safe department
- Keep all areas of your department clean & organized – sales floor, counters, coolers, prep room, dock, aisles, shelves and warehouse
- Rotate all products to ensure freshness at all times and educate staff on the importance of product rotation and how to handle and display products properly
- Ensure that items are stocked in an eye-pleasing manner with appropriate signage
- Maintain proper levels of stock throughout the department to ensure freshness, quality and availability
- Check codes on everything to make sure we provide only the freshest products
- Scan products to ensure proper pricing and perform shelf tags maintenance as needed
- Be aware of the refrigerator temperature so that the optimal temperature is maintained at all times to avoid spoilage and notify management of any temperature changes or short codes
- Safely collect shopping carts and maintain the parking lots
Leadership Abilities:
- Ordering other department members orders when required
- Prioritize breakdown, checking and packing out of product deliveries in a timely and efficient manner
- Effectively execute floor inventory management procedures by creating a pull list, assigning and delegating the items or areas of inventory to pack out from the warehouse
- Maintain knowledge of warehouse inventory and ensure organization and consolidation of warehouse

Monitor customer special orders and proactively check the status. Call customer when items arrive to arrange for
pickup - Assist in schedule changes and conflicts and review the posted schedule
- Must work the hours needed according to the operating needs of the department and must work flexible hours to meet demand
Physical Requirements:
- Neat & clean appearance
- Must be able to lift 50 to 75 lbs.
- Must be able to move u-boats with heavy loads from one area to another in a safe manner
- Must be able to climb ladders to stock top shelves & refrigerator tops
- Must be physically & mentally able to work the hours you are needed according to operating needs of company
- Must be able to use eye-hand coordination to stock shelves, clean, price products, and complete department tasks
- Ability to work in cold temperatures (cooler & freezer) for long periods of time
- Must be able to work varied hours/days to oversee department operations
Mental/Reasoning Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate initiative without direct supervision on duties that have been delegated, reviewed, and previously discussed
- The ability to look at space & know how merchandise will fit properly
- To rotate all products to assure freshness at all times
- To be able to talk to customers in a way that they always feel at home
- To work together with all employees, department managers, and store managers
