Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Import Procurement Manager to oversee purchasing of all import products and materials, maintain and audit vendor relationships and proactively develop more efficient methods for forecasting demand and securing a robust & cost-effective supply chain. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procurement & purchasing and logistics management specific to the import of container shipments through US Ports.
This role requires a strategic thinker who can effectively manage contracts and work closely with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, vendors and brokers while supporting the sales team and our customers with accurate information regarding deliverables.
Duties
- Manage the end-to-end import process, costs and challenges ensuring timely delivery of goods while adhering to all regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, suppliers, and 3PL partners to facilitate smooth operations.
- Oversee transportation planning and logistics strategies to optimize efficiency, reduce costs and report up.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate documentation and compliance with customs regulations.
- Utilize software tools for tracking shipments, building accurate purchase orders, managing contracts, and analyzing transportation data.
- Monitor & report industry trends and changes in regulations that may impact import operations.
Experience
- Proven experience in import management or a related field, with a strong understanding of HTS coding, duties, fees & regulations, container ship carrier methods and routes, brokerage firms and domestic trucking operations.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and ERP or CRM software.
- Experience in procurement & vendor management.
- Demonstrated ability in transportation planning, quoting and budgeting.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to assess operational performance and implement improvements.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
