Job Title: Diesel Mechanic Level 2 and 3
Department: Service
Reports To: Shift Leader
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
**SUMMARY**
The Diesel Mechanic Level 2 and 3 are integral members of the Vehicle Maintenance team responsible for repairing and maintaining trucks and trailers to ensure optimal performance and safety. These roles involve conducting preventive maintenance, diagnosing issues, and performing repairs in accordance with industry standards.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Conduct regular preventive maintenance on service trucks, including inspections, tire rotations, tire repairs, and oil changes.
- Perform minor repairs on trucks and trailers to address issues promptly.
- Execute truck and trailer brake jobs, including teardown, parts analysis, and reassembly of brake and wheel end components.
- Conduct diagnostic tests on trucks to identify and address mechanical issues.
- Troubleshoot and repair trailer light and electrical problems with minimal supervision.
- Troubleshoot and repair brake air system complaints, including ABS, with minimal supervision.
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs performed on vehicles.
- Operate a tractor on the yard as required to move trailers to and from the shop area, yard, and inspection areas.
- Perform truck and trailer inspections to identify potential maintenance needs.
- Fulfill other duties as needed to support the Vehicle Maintenance department.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Proficient in the identification and application of common hardware used in tractor and trailer repairs.
- Experience in performing tractor/trailer mechanical repairs.
- Possession of required hand tools for the job.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to operate a tractor/trailer combination in close quarters.
- Adherence to company policies and guidelines regarding professional conduct.
**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent. However, exceptions may be made based on experience or other qualifications.
- Minimum of 1 year of diesel mechanic work experience or recent graduation from a diesel engine program.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, grasping, and seeing.
- Capability to stand for extended periods on concrete surfaces.
- Capable of working in various weather conditions and environments.
- Manual dexterity and coordination for operating tools and equipment.
**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
- The work environment for this position may include exposure to loud noises, fumes, and hazardous materials typical of automotive repair facilities.
