Job Title: Trailer Mechanic
Department: Vehicle Maintenance
Reports To: Vehicle Maintenance Manager
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
SUMMARY
Familiar with all equipment, devices, and systems on the plant. Able to troubleshoot and repair various types of equipment, devices, and systems. Has the ability to assess jobs and determine labor and material requirements. Completes all paperwork needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Conducting Federal FHWA Preventive maintenance inspections of trailer and tractor units, extensive repairs in all phases of tractor & trailer maintenance including body, frame, suspension, electrical, valve and air systems.
Conduct preventive maintenance service and general vehicle repairs.
Repairs may include welding.
Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 2 years: Preventive Maintenance on Trailers / Tractors
The employee is required to provide their own hand tools
Must be able to follow Service Transport policies and guidelines in regards to acceptable conduct when dealing with fellow managers, employees, and vendors.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school/Vocational school diploma preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
ASE certification not required but recommended Computer experience a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Must be able to walk, push and pull heavy loads, stoop, lift, reach overhead, and climb and twist in confined spaces.
