Job Purpose
Assist mechanics who diagnose, adjust, repair or overhaul waste hauling vehicles.
Tasks
Change hydraulic filters, fuel filters, air filters, oil filters, brakes, and tires.
Confer with drivers to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements.
Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
Inspect vehicles for damage and record findings so that necessary repairs can be made.
Maintain cleanliness of work area.
Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
Review work orders and discuss work with supervisors.
Requirements
To be able to stand for long hours.
To stoop and bend with ease
To be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted
To work in an environment that often smells musty, putrid, or rancid
To potentially work in an environment that has seasonally high heat or low temperatures due to being outdoors
To potentially work in an environment that has wet or humid conditions due to be being outdoors
To work near moving mechanical parts
Qualifications
Previous experience as a mechanic of at least 1 year.
Good Driving Record & ability to Pass Drug testing
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
